How to Choose a Propane Supplier

Posted on Tue, May 18, 2021 @ 07:00 AM

Are you updating a rural property and are planning to switch to propane energy from oil or electric heating? It makes sense. oil, once the most common heating source in the 1950s-60's was widely replaced by electric baseboard heating in the 1970's. Now, homeowners want HVAC systems that provide the latest control and comfort throughout the seasons and use environmentally friendly energy.

Rural properties that were previously only used for 3 seasons are now being used year-round and updating the heating system is essential. Properties in rural locations, lakeside cottages and small villages often do not have natural gas services and propane is the clean & green solution.

If you recently acquired a property with an old heating system or are ready to update the family seasonal cottage this year,  you'll want to choose a propane supplier to go along with your newly installed propane furnace system.

Choosing which propane company to go with is important. Your propane supplier is providing an essential service for years to come. Let's look at some of the key considerations when selecting the right propane company.

New to Propane? Here's a Guide for Homeowners

Posted on Tue, Mar 23, 2021 @ 05:12 PM

According to real estate news, 2020 saw a trend for homeowners to move out of larger towns and cities and relocate to a rural community. This was partially because of so many companies transitioning to a remote workforce, where all that was needed was a quiet space and an internet connection for office workers to complete their work. Urban homeowners saw an opportunity to pull up stakes and settle into a year-round rural retreat with all the associated benefits of country living.

Housing in rural or even remote areas, is quite different than in cities - especially when it comes to energy.

Many communities in central Ontario, especially smaller villages, do not have access to natural gas and so homes are either heated by electricity, oil, or propane.

Home buyers often calculate into the purchase price how much it would cost to renovate and upgrade a property to forced air propane with central air conditioning.  Cost savings, efficiency, and environmental benefits are often cited as the reason for the preference for propane.

If you are new to propane as an energy source for your home, we've put together some helpful information in the form of a complimentary downloadable guide (PDF).

Commercial Restaurant Kitchens Choose Propane

Posted on Thu, Mar 11, 2021 @ 01:20 PM

Professional chefs prefer cooking on gas, hands-down. According to propane.com over 96% of chefs would rather cook with a gas range. And it's easy to see why.

Gas ranges, cooktops and ovens provide precise temperature control, even heating, and instant on/off capabilities saving valuable time in a busy restaurant kitchen.

And just as quickly as the cooktop heats up, it also cools down fast and this can help prevent over-cooking and is also a safety feature. Electric cooktops can stay very hot for several minutes after being shut off and that increases the potential for burn accidents.

But, there are some other reasons why chefs choose gas cooking over electric and it has to do with costs. Propane is a cost-effective energy, traditionally much cheaper than electricity. Propane has higher BTUs than both electricity and natural gas so a propane stove creates much more powerful heat with less energy consumed.

Propane also burns clean with a low carbon content so it leaves almost no residue. This helps keep propane appliances clean and serviceable longer than natural gas or electric stoves / ranges.

In summary - propane commercial cooking equipment is top-rated by professionals in the restaurant and hospitality industry because:

  1. precise temperature control
  2. more even heating
  3. faster heating and cooling down
  4. lower cost
  5. cleaner and more environmentally friendly

Restaurants and commercial hospitality establishments need to provide the best quality food at the lowest operating costs. Propane in professional kitchens helps owners achieve these results.

Of course, many home and cottage owners also select propane kitchen appliances for exactly the same benefits as those working in commercial kitchens.

And for homeowners, they can utilize one source of clean energy, propane to cook food, dry clothes, and heat the house - all off the electrical grid.

Posted on Thu, Dec 31, 2020 @ 02:13 PM

It's often the case that older rural homes were heated using oil furnaces. In Canada, oil for residential heating peaked in 1965 when it accounted for almost 65% of all domestic heating costs. Since then it has dropped to around 10-15%. Many homes with oil furnaces have since converted to natural gas, electricity or propane. For rural properties, estate homes, cottages, and farms - the choice has been between electricity and propane.
