Unconventional Winter Poses Safety Risk for Budget Propane Drivers

Posted by James Callow on Fri, Feb 21, 2025 @ 10:00 AM

Near record-breaking snowfall.

State of emergency.

Polar vortexes.

School cancellations.

Highway closures.

Fifty car pile-up.

In just TWENTY days, Central Ontario has experienced a full season’s worth of winter making propane deliveries extremely hazardous and challenging for our Budget Propane drivers to do so safely.

The harsh temperatures, extreme road conditions and unconventional snowfalls are challenging for everyone. Being transparent with our customers and community is our top priority and the snow accumulation has greatly impacted on our ability to safely deliver propane to our communities in a timely manner, unfortunately putting us behind schedule.

With layers of ice blanketing the roads and snowbanks reaching heights of over 6 feet, our bulk drivers are struggling to safely make scheduled deliveries to your homes without the proper clearance and property management.

As they already carry heavy fuel hoses from the truck to the propane tanks, delivery becomes an even more physically grueling task. If drivers and service technicians are expected to shovel clear paths to the tanks, the current climate poses a more immense health and safety risk, and we simply cannot put them in more harm’s way.

At Budget Propane, we have compiled a list of ways that you can better prepare your homes for delivery to ensure proper safeguarding of your property and our drivers, where propane delivery becomes more seamless.

With your help we can get back on track, so our deliveries remain on schedule.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

  • Clear a path and remove the snow from your tanks.

  • Driveways need 12 ft. of clearance and 13 ft. of clearance with turns and bends.

  • Dryer vents, generators and exhaust pipes MUST be CLEAR of snow and ice.

  • Be patient! Our teams are working as quickly and as safely as possible to get to you.

Our customer service representatives and dispatch team have roughly 750 customers a day, with 30 deliveries per propane driver in one single day. Our phone lines are consistently ringing and busy, and our customer service teams are making sure that your voice is heard.

Despite these challenges, our bulk drivers, service technicians and customer service representatives are working around the clock and picking up extra shifts to make sure that your homes stay heated throughout the remainder of this unprecedented winter period.

We hear and understand your concerns and we value your feedback. We strive to answer every question from each one of our Budget Propane customers with the most up to date information that is available to us.

We value our relationship with you and are doing the best we can during these winter challenges.

From our Budget Propane family to yours, we thank you for your business and trust in us as your local clean energy propane supplier. A sustainable Canadian resource.
