Home & Property Tips For When You are Away on Holidays

homeowner tips for when you are away

HolidaysAt this time of year we are well into the summer holiday season, and more than ever people are heading out to stay at resorts or rent cottages in Ontario.

But, what happens in an emergency if you aren’t home? This also applies to your own cottage or if you have a second home that might be unoccupied for weeks, if not months, at a time throughout the year.

Here's three key homeowner tips.

Looking after your Principal Place of Residence

Heating and cooling systems can shut down for a variety of reasons including mechanical failure and electrical power outages.

Helpful Tip: Install a SMART thermostat with the ability to monitor your home's HVAC system remotely. You'll have comfort knowing that your home is being kept within programmable temperature ranges. This can help save on heating and cooling costs too, as you can adjust the temperature to coincide with when you'll be returning to your property. In addition to a SMART thermostat many homeowners today have installed a security camera or cameras, along with a SMART doorbell.  A little research in home security smart devices will generate a multitude of solutions.

With Budget Propane's remote tank monitoring system, you won't have to worry about your home's energy needs while you are away. Find out more it here.

Your Seasonal or Second Home

If you have a second home which gets used inconsistently or is rented periodically, it may be difficult to accurately forecast propane deliveries. Lack of heat in your seasonal or rental home can lead to frozen pipes and/or water damage, among other things. These situations can be very costly both financially and emotionally.

Helpful Tip: Make sure our office has on file the contact information for your property's caretaker. And in this case, it is even more practical to leave the propane energy management to us and install remote tank monitoring with automatic propane delivery.

Help Us Serve Your Needs Better

Sometimes emergency situations arise and we need to contact you immediately. It is terribly frustrating for us if we are unable to reach or customers in a timely manner. We have gone to homes and found flooding, as well as other damages while people were away and needed either access or permission to deal with the problem.

Helpful Tip: Make sure we have your current phone number, mailing address and email address. Also, please provide us with a person as an alternative/emergency contact in case you are out of reach.
