Why You Should Consider Propane Heating for Commercial Use

Posted by James Callow on Fri, Nov 07, 2014 @ 01:07 PM

No matter the size of your business, productivity and efficiency directly affect your revenue.

If your employees are less productive at your construction site now that the temperature is dropping, your industrial equipment is moving slowly, or your heating costs skyrocket in the winter months, propane may be the answer you’re looking for.

In large-scale applications, commercial propane furnaces and water heaters are reliable options for large buildings with a high demand for energy.  Hospitals, warehouses, and manufacturing facilities require huge amounts of energy, making propane the most cost-effective fuel choice.

Construction sites can also benefit from propane heating, as propane is an incredibly portable and flexible energy source.  Propane-powered heaters can be used to heat the site office, create employee warm-up stations, or even as a temporary heat source in situations such as drywall finishing.

According to the Propane Education & Research Council and the Canadian Propane Association, using propane in an industrial or commercial environment has many advantages including:

1. Lower Emissions
Propane is a clean burning fuel source with many air quality advantages.  Propane is classified as being a LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), a combustible hydrocarbon fuel and is one of the lightest, simplest hydrocarbons in existence.  When properly mixed, it emits virtually no soot, and low carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and oxides of nitrogen.

Propane-powered forklifts produce 19 percent fewer emissions than gasoline forklifts and 7 percent fewer emissions than diesel forklifts. Additionally, when you take in total site-to-source emissions, propane's total emissions are fewer than electricity.

2. Increased Productivity
Propane-fueled forklifts save time.  Not only do they operate faster than electric-powered forklifts, they require a simple cylinder switch rather than battery charging.

3. Performance Guarantees
Propane has a proven track record in a commercial environment. Propane fuels 670,000 forklifts in U.S factories and warehouses and is used as the primary heating fuel in many commercial buildings.

4. Abundant Supply
Canada is the 6th largest producer of propane in the world and produces 3.5% of the world's supply.  Only half of that production is used within Canada - the rest is exported! There is infrastructure in place to transport, store and dispense propane safety and efficiently in Canada.
