Propane is a convenient, safe, and environmentally-friendly fuel that has a wide range of applications, from residential to commercial and beyond. Propane tanks come in a variety of sizes, from small canisters ideal for backyard use to the large storage tank that can be used to fuel a home or facility.
Understanding your propane tank, its use, safety measures, and when it needs to be refilled can help simplify your day-to-day operations and help you get the most out of using propane.
Safety and Precautions: While propane is a clean-burning fuel without the same harmful fumes as gasoline and fuel oils, it does require respect and careful handling. Never expose your propane tank to open flame, regardless of its size. Do not smoke near propane tanks, and don't store small propane canister spares underneath grills. For the most part, propane safety is common sense. Treat your cylinders with respect and care.
If you have aged cylinders, your propane supplier may be able to provide an inspection or suggest replacements. It is a good idea to have us take a close look at any home storage tanks or large commercial tanks to ensure leak-free and safe operation.
Propane Refills and Supply Monitoring: Propane tanks have gauges that offer pressure readings for you to keep track of your current levels, and a combination of at-home or on-site monitoring and remote services can ensure that you never run out of fuel.
When it comes to tank sizing, your we can help determine the energy load that will need to be met. Homes served by propane as their primary fuel source can benefit from large storage tanks, while commercial clients may require auxiliary tanks on hand depending upon your needs.

A Review of Propane & The Environment from Budget Propane Ontario

Carbon Emissions: Propane gas contains significantly less carbon than many types of fuel for which it can be used as a substitute, including diesel fuel, gasoline, and coal. This is reflected in comparing propane’s greenhouse gas emissions per productivity unit to those of other fuel sources. Even natural gas, which generates fewer carbon emissions per productivity unit than propane, ultimately has a heavier impact on the environment because of the methane that is released into the air as it is burned.
Toxicity: One of propane’s environmental selling points is that it burns cleanly. Propane gas is non-toxic and contains no lead. Upon vaporization, propane dissipates rapidly. All of these factors make propane’s impact on the earth and soil negligible.
Air Contaminants: Air contaminants released by some fuels cause significant air pollution. Some of these contaminants can cause or increase the risk of disease in humans, plants, and animals. According to the World Liquid Propane Gas Association , propane gas produces far fewer air contaminants than coal, diesel, oil, and wood-based fuels. Switching to propane gas can actually improve the quality of air in environments where one of these other sources has been used.
Transportation: Canadians have an added advantage when it comes to propane and the environment, and that is that propane is produced in Canada and can be distributed to most Ontario homes and businesses using very little energy. On a related note, propane-fueled transportation is a green alternative to gasoline-powered transport that is increasing in popularity as technology develops.
