Backyard swimming pool

Summer is around the corner, the hot weather is back and it’s finally time to make the most of our backyards. Want some advice? You can save money on all those outdoor appliances, while cutting down on your carbon footprint, with the use of Propane gas

Propane is cheaper, safer and a far more eco-friendly alternative to conventional gas and electric heating and energy systems. Factoring in both the installation and maintenance costs of your equipment, propane can save around 30 per cent compared to electricity and 25 per cent compared to conventional oil energy.

Propane is versatile and can be used to heat or power most appliances within your home.

Here’s Budget Propane Ontario’s advice on how to use propane in your backyard this summer:

Heating pools or hot tubs

What better way to enjoy those summer days than swimming in your backyard pool or spending a relaxing evening in the hot tub. Propane water heaters can heat your pool or hot tub in hours or even minutes. This is a much faster and more efficient method than conventional electrical options. This is particularly ideal if you don’t use your pool or hot tub on a regular basis, and simply just want to heat them as needed. No matter the weather, you’ll be able to heat your pool or hot tub in minutes - making it ready for exactly when you want it.

Outdoor space heaters

For those cooler summer nights, you’ll probably still want to sit out on some occasions, right? Well don’t fear, propane can be the perfect partner to heat your outdoor space heaters or fuel your outdoor fireplace. Propane fireplaces and space heaters are easy and convenient to use, far cheaper than the cost of heating your home and will keep you warm when you want to sit outside on those cooler evenings.

There are a number of different sizes and models of propane heaters and fireplaces and they come in all different styles to match the design of your house and patio. Propane heaters can come as table top options, feature in-built lights and much more.

Propane-fueled mowers

Now that the snow has melted it’s time to get back outside and start doing yard work. There’s a reason that a growing number of landscaping companies are converting their equipment to run propane - it’s cheaper! You can do the same. Invest in converting your lawn mower and yard equipment to run on propane will not only see your carbon footprint decrease, but you’ll also increase motor efficiency and save money in the long run.

And, of course, barbecues!

Barbecues are most likely what comes to mind when one thinks of propane, and what is a Canadian summer without a good barbecue. There’s still a surprisingly large number of people who are using gas or charcoal grills instead of propane - reserving propane for those camping or weekend visits to the cottage. This is despite propane grills being faster, more convenient to use, more efficient and requiring less clean up.

Propane produces less smoke and therefore does not transfer flavours to your food in the way a charcoal grill can. It offers instant heat and complete heat control, meaning you can easily monitor and adjust the barbecue depending on how well your food is cooking. Propane is also incredibly safe, with tanks being 20 times more puncture resistant than those filled with ethanol, methanol or gasoline.

For those who really understand the benefits of propane, summer is the time to invest in a propane generator for your entire home. Summer brings with it it’s fair share of thunderstorms, but with a propane generator installed in your house you’ll never lose power.
