Gas fireplaces are becoming one of the most popular on the market, and are gaining in popularity each year. In fact, according to Real Estate Weekly, a gas fireplace is one of the most desirable assets for resale value and setting tone and ambiance in your home.

This growing popularity has created a demand for a vast array of styles and designs. Here are some factors to keep in mind when choosing your new fireplace:

Why Choose Propane?

Propane fireplaces are a low-cost, easy-to-use option that will invite warmth into your home. Turn your fireplace on with the push of a button and take advantage of the non-toxic, environmentally friendly fuel source to heat your home.

Propane fireplaces heat your home more evenly and efficiently than a wood burning fireplace, without producing the same emissions or flying sparks.

In addition, propane fireplaces have low clearance requirements, allowing for more flexible installation options.

Type and Safety

There are two main types of propane fireplace inserts: Direct Vent or Vent Free.

Direct Vent units draw in outside air to keep the flame burning and exhaust all combustion gases and water vapour released by burning gas. Direct Vent fireplaces do not require a chimney – they can be vented directly through a wall or roof. Direct Vents are the safest option, but do not heat as well as Vent Free inserts.

Vent Free inserts have a high efficiency rating because no heat escapes through an exhaust. Check your building code to ensure there are no restrictions on Vent Free heating appliances.

Propane fireplaces may also have additional options to consider including controls for adjusting heat or flame height, as well as inclusion of fans to disperse heat.

Design and Style

Propane fireplaces are available in a wide array of designs and styles to fit your home’s décor. Wall mounts or built-ins, european or modern. Different shapes, styles or accents can be added to give your fireplace a personal touch. Stylish add-ons include:

• Decorative trim and bricks

• Coloured ember beds

• Log kits

• Stone and glass kits

• Accent lights

• Ornamental inserts

• Reflective radiant panels

Now you can enjoy the warmth and ambiance of a custom fireplace this winter with a low-cost, environmentally friendly fuel source!
