Propane is an important part of the Canadian energy market

The Canadian Propane Association (CPA) spoke recently to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Natural Resources about the important part that propane plays in the diversification of Canada’s energy market.

“Propane is an energy solution with many uses – both domestic and abroad – and should be treated as an equal partner when any government is developing energy policies,” said CPA President & CEO, Jim Facette. “Propane markets can be expanded to include more widespread use in sectors such as mining and transportation, which will help lower costs for all consumers.”

Propane, is an important energy source in Canada; it is used in agricultural, industrial, and residential applications. In remote locations propane may be the only fuel available, because of its portability, especially at construction sites, mines and cottages. The Propane Association also pointed out that, "propane is among the cleanest and most cost-effective choices for fleets, and is ideal for police cars, taxis, delivery vehicles and buses."

Did you know that Canada produces 11 billion litres of propane annually and about half is used domestically. According to Association statistics, the industry "makes a $10 billion dollar impact on the Canadian economy, generates over $900 million in taxes and royalties, and supports the livelihood of more than 30,000 Canadians."

“Propane is an energy solution with a multitude of uses that is available here and now. Whether it is used to power a taxi in Ontario, heat a home in Nova Scotia, or fuel a lawnmower in British Columbia, clean-burning propane offers a made-in-Canada energy solution available today and tomorrow for every community across the country,” said Mr. Facette.
