In the spring issue of the Canadian Propane Association's magazine, there is an interesting article about how Canada Post is reducing its environmental impact and keeping cost down by using propane vehicles.
Canada Post operates 130 propane vehicles in Ontario, BC, Alberta, NS, and NFL and the number is growing.
"Currently we are realizing a reduced fuel cost per equivalent litre of propane in comparison to conventional gasoline or diesel fuel, and the cost to install fast-fill propane refuel infrastructure is less than that of Compressed Natural Gas/Liquified Natural Gas. The longer life cycle of our custom-build fleet vehicles means more kilometers travelled, and increased return on invested capital."
When asked about other benefits, Canada Post said, "Emissions from motor vehicles are responsbile for generating nearly half of North America's air pollution. Propane is non-toxic, low in carbon monoxide, reactive hydrocarbons and sulphur, and therefore propane powered vehicles can produce 60% few toxic and smog forming air pollutants.
Propane is a made in Canada solution for Canada Post, as Canada produces approximately 11 billion litres of propane per year.
