Uses for Propane in Your Home or Cottage

When we think of what we can use propane for around the house or cottage we most likely think of the obvious, such as a barbeque, stove-tops and ranges, and propane patio heaters. But did you know there were so many other appliances you could use propane for around your home? Propane is a very useful source of energy, especially when your home and/or cottage is in a more remote area. Listed below are an assortment of different household appliances that are able to work using propane.

Kitchen Appliances

It is very common for propane to be used in the kitchen. Gas ranges and cook-tops are something of the past that have stuck around in today’s modern age. For those in favour of a gas range or stove-top, they may enjoy how they are able to cook with an open flame, as well as have total control of how much heat their element creates. Don’t be surprised if you see refrigerators and freezers that are operated by propane. It’s easy to set up, all you need to do is run a gas line to where you would like to place the appliance and hook it up. Of course, make sure the appliance is compatible with a gas line before setting one up

Laundry Room

Having a washer and dryer that operate on propane gas is very common as well. There is usually a line set up in either the laundry room or laundry closet of your home. Now whether it is propane gas or natural gas is up to the home owner or builder. If it is natural gas, it is possible to switch it to use propane if that is preferred.

Heating Sources

The appliances that are most commonly known to use propane are ones that provide heat. Appliances such as water heaters, furnaces, fireplaces and central heaters are all able to run off of propane gas in order to work. Having the option of propane is a great source of power to have, especially during the winter months. If there were a big storm and the power were to go out, you would still be able to keep yourself and family warm with a propane operated heating source. Speaking of losing power, there are also generators that run off of propane, so if you ever find yourself without power during the winter months you can always rely on your propane operated generator.

Having the option of dual power sources in your home or cottage is a good and safe way to ensure that you will never be without power. Our Ontario winters are pretty harsh and we have been hit with some pretty bad storms as a result. Be prepared to take on the elements and keep safe and warm this winter.
