Going Away? Protect Your Home By Monitoring Your Propane Fuel Levels

Do you have a cottage that runs on propane? Now that we are in the middle of winter, you’re likely spending less time at your cottage.  But what happens if your tank runs out of propane?

If you haven’t arranged for automatic delivery with state-of-the-art forecasting, consider installing a low temperature alarm to ensure your fuel level doesn’t drop too low.

How Do Low Temperature Alarms Work?

Low Temperature Alarms monitor the heat level in your home.  This is important in the event of furnace failure or if your tank runs out of fuel.  The alarm can be set to alert you if the ambient temperature in a specific area of your home drops below a predetermined temperature.

Why Should You Install a Low Temperature Alarm?

Running out of fuel can have devastating effects.  It can cause pipes to freeze and burst causing flooding and damage to your home.  In addition, it can create a serious safety hazard if you and your family are home.

What Other Precautions Can You Take?

Always make sure your fuel tank is full – make sure to fill it before the busy winter season and fill it again when it drops to 25-30%.  Keep pathways to your propane tank clear in the event that you do run out of fuel and need an emergency fill.  Click here for some more ideas on winter safety and propane safety with our blog on how to stay safe and warm this winter!
