Benefits of a Propane Generator

Propane generators will keep your appliances running during power outagesOur daily routines have become highly reliant on the different energy sources that we have available to us at our finger tips. All of the different technologies, appliances and toys that we frequently use all need a power source to keep them working. But what happens if the energy source that you rely on, such as electricity, has a shortage or a power outage occurs due to poor weather conditions?

The best option for you to be prepared for situations like this is to invest in a generator. However, not just any back up generator will suffice. Your best option would be to use a propane generator. Propane fuelled generators make more sense compared to gasoline or diesel fueled generators.

Here are a few benefits of having a propane generator compared to gasoline generators.

Always be Prepared for the Worst

Power outages can happen at any time. No one is ever sure how long they will last, it could be 20 minutes or even a few days. It is important to be prepared for times like this. Having a propane fuelled generator allows you to be prepared in case the power went out tomorrow or 2 years from now. Propane is a fuel that is considered limitless, it will not evaporate or degrade over time like gasoline does.

Another positive about propane generators is that you are able to refill the tanks even if the power is out. This can’t be done with gasoline since the gas pumps are not operating when there is a power outage.

Protect Your Second Home or Cottage

The fact that propane doesn’t evaporate over time will ensure that your generator will be running in case something was to happen at a home that isn’t occupied for some months throughout the year. Especially during the winter months, having a reliable generator will ensure that your second home is protected from freezing or bursting pipes which could result in extensive and expensive damages.

Gasoline generators aren’t necessarily reliable during these types or situations, especially if they haven’t been used, checked or refilled recently leading up to when it is actually used. The gasoline used to power your generator also runs the risk of contamination or carbon deposits if the generator hasn’t been turned on and run for a few months.

Protect Our Environment When Possible

With our environment being a constant concern, it is important to do your part in keeping our air clean wherever possible. Propane is a ‘cleaning burning’ fuel, which means that it produces a lower amount of carbon monoxide and doesn’t act as a Greenhouse Gas like other common power sources do, for example gasoline and electricity.

Also, propane is a better option as a power source because it is non-toxic and is released as a gas. So, when your tank is being filled there is no risk of spillage, especially with the hassle-free and safe hose and valve attachment that is used when connecting your propane tank to the propane source (a larger safe tank) during fill-ups. Gasoline is a different story. There is a risk of spillage and hassle associated with filling a gasoline tank, which doesn’t protect our environment at all.

Being prepared for the worst is always something that you should keep in mind for yourself and your family. Be sure to have enough food, water, warm clothing and, or course, an operating and reliable back-up power source, such as a generator.
